Busy Weekend and No Comment

Well Saturday started off quite simple and slow.  Thank god.  Did not do a lot in the day because we knew that we were going out at the night time.
All the hype on the net was about who would win the Eurovision Song Contest and did the UK have a chance.  Well the second one i could have answered easily.  No.  We were never going to have a chance because frankly we have no border country that would vote for us.  The majority of the countries taking part are either in the European Union or they have a lot of countries that border them or suck up to them in politics.  We being an island have nothing like this and I dont care what anyone says, the voting is political and most of the time its nothing to do with either the singer or the song (that being said the winner this year was good :) )
Well the day went at its usual Saturday pace and I set the V+ for all my football that was on (Italian and German on BT sport) and also for the Eurovision (for Deb).
We got ready at about 5.30 as I had already booked the taxi for 6.30.  Me, Deb, Janet, Tony and Jeff arrived at the Winter Gardens at about 6.45 and had a quick drink before the doors were opened and we were allowed to take our seats.
I had been unsure all week if I was going to be able to go because I had a terrible back problem that had been causing me pain all week and even though I had been on painkillers it still continued.
Anyway I decided to go in the end and I am so glad that I did because I would have regretted not attending one of the most entertaining nights I have had a privilege to be at.  It was superb from the word go.
We went to see a tribute act called Killer Queen (the original tribute act that had been formed in 1993).  The guy being Freddie Mercury was outstanding and had all his moves and stage mannerisms down to a tea.  His voice was good too and along with the Bryan May guitarist and the drummer, they all got the audience involved, and though I regretted it the next day I too was standing and rocking with the rest of them.  When he had us doing the hand movements to 'Radio Ga Ga' I could be seen clapping and pushing my hands out, however doing this once or twice made me remember that my side and back were agony....................lol.  Ah well, when in Rome and all that......
The concert lasted for over two hours altogether with a ten to fifteen minute break in the middle.  The repertoire of songs was well put together and included old hits such as 'fat bottomed girls' and 'I want to ride my bicycle' as well as more upto date ones such as 'Radio Ga Ga' and 'Its a kind of magic'.  Great dance routines and superb audience interaction made for a wonderful nights entertainment and we all had a superb time.  Jeff really enjoyed it as it was an early Birthday present from all of us as he is 50 later this year :)
We came out of the venue at about 10.15 and after getting a taxi home we proceeded to encamp at Tony's house where we finished the night off with kebabs, beer and talking until midnight.

The next day we were all worn out and ready to do nothing for the day, which is precisely what we did.  Deb and Janet spent all day talking and doing various things on laptops and tablets and I proceeded to spend the afternoon watching the football I had taped from the day before and also recording three matches that day to watch later in the week.  Football mad you might say, and yes I would have to agree :)

Ok now the worst part of the weekend that will not live long in the memory of any Liverpool fan for too long I hope.  We were annihilated at football in out last game of the Premier league season.  Going into the game I feared the worst as our football in the last few weeks (apart from the draw away to Chelsea) had been diabolical.  We got the hammering we deserved as we lost 6-1 and were 5-0 down at half time.  Credit to Stoke for putting us to the sword and I have to say we got what we deserved.  I was pleased that Steven Gerrard signed off with a goal in his final game but that alas was the only positive I can take from the game.  Bring on next season (he says with trepidation).  Goodbye Steven Gerrard,  I have followed you your entire Liverpool career and you have let me experience nights and days of football that I would not have thought possible.  There have been times when you have carried a mediocre team to cup glories and for that I thank you.  Good luck for the future and I definitely hope that you will return to your beloved Liverpool FC in some capacity in the future.  YNWA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Monday I was really in pain but inside I had made up my mind that I was going to load my system with painkillers and go out.  It was the opening of the new Sky Force ride at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.  It had been endorsed by the famous Red Arrows Aeronautical Display Team and as a special treat to mark the occasion they were performing a display just off South shore.  We arranged to meet my mum in town and we left the house about 11.30. After arriving in town at just before 12.00 we decided to really push the boat out and have a doughnut......lol.  We had gone in Co-Op and they were doing some rhubard and custard doughnuts in packs of two.  So we bought two packs......lol.  Mum arrived shortly after and we all stood there eating doughnuts.  After walking round town for a bit we proceeded to catch a bus down to South Shore.  It was busy to say the least as it was bank holiday.  Lots of people had gathered and at almost bang on two 'o'clock the display began.  Thirty minutes of wonderful co-ordination and timing led to a wonderful display that left everyone smiling and enjoying the day.  Where we were stood we were catching the wind coming in off the sea and to say it was cold is an understatement.  Blue fingers.  Definitely.
After the display all three of us went for a lovely meal in one of the side streets down at South shore and after looking in a couple of shops we went our separate ways.  We caught the bus back and I spent the rest of the evening watching all of the football I had taped over the previous two days.

A very enjoyable but busy weekend and now we can rest for a couple of days..................l
