Saturday 29 December 2012

Hi All,

Hope you all had a great Christmas and are looking forward to a good new year and all that 2013 brings.

Had a good Christmas here apart from poor Deb has been ill almost the whole time, although she did manage to get through Christmas day.  I think it has been this flu/cold virus that has been going round.  The good new is that she is on the road to recovery and the worst seems to be over, so she may get to enjoy New Years Eve !!!!!!!

Well the weather has been awful so we have not been able to get out either (Deb being Ill hasnt made a difference).  The beauty of the internet has meant that we were still able to pick up some bargains in the boxing day sales (mostly from HMV online).  You should check out their Bluray sale (its the best on the net).  Picked up some more presents of people and so am just waiting for them to arrive.

As the weather has been bad and we have been confined to the house (so to speak), we have watched a LOT of tv and films including Mr Stink, Miranda, It'll be alright on the night, Doctor who and several others on tv.  Dvd/Bluray wise we have watched Fred Claus, Mr Bean's Holiday, Santa Paws 1 and 2, Hop, Nativity, Four Christmases and lots more.  I have also started to watch (finally....) my boxset of Band of Brothers.  I am hooked so far.

Not a lot happening other than that.  I have decided that i am making two new years resolutions.

1. Start doing a lot more writing
2. Stop biting my nails.

the reason behind number 1 is i have several stories that i have part-written and they are just sitting on my PC doing nothing.  I have been told that i am a good writer and if that is my gift its about time i started to use it and not sit around on my ass all day just wondering what might be.  The number 2 is because i am one of lifes nail biters and its starting to annoy even me.  Whether i am watching a tense football match or just watching a dvd i find myself biting my nails.  Not only does it make your fingers look unsightly, but it also causes some pain and discomfort which i intend to avoid.

I will let you know how i do with both.

Believer

Do I believe in Santa Claus
A man all dressed in red
That flies round the world in just one night
With nine reindeer to pull his sled?

Do I think its possible?
And if so, how can it be?
That there can be such a man
who nobody can see

Well I believe in miracles
and that some are here to stay
for miracles can be real
like they are on Christmas Day

Why cant there be a man like this
that flies all the way round the world
and brings gifts and toys to all the children
the good boys and the girls

for christmas is a time for us
to be thankful for who we are
so keep an eye out on christmas eve
for a very special star

And in your heart remember
the excitement when you were young
and open your eyes to believing
as the Christmas carols are sung

Hi All.  Hope your christmas preparations are going well and that all is well with you and your families.  Its been a while since i have been ill now and it appears that the worst is over for me now. Yeyyyyyy

I havent been upto a lot lately as its been too cold to go anywhere.  All the christmas present buying is finished and most of the grocery shopping is prepared.  Really looking forward to it this year and enjoying the build up.  Got the Christmas tv guide the other day so in the next couple of days we will be planning our christmas viewing.  Hope there are lots of good programmes on as I miss that part about Christmas.  When i was young I always remember that there were lots of good programmes to watch including specials of Only Fools, 321, vicar of dibley, morecambe and wise etc........

Deb has almost finished making her christmas cards for this year and mostly its just wrapping and baking to complete the prep.  I havent written anything new for a while (until today).  We are watching a lot of DVD and Bluray;s at the moment as there isnt a lot on tv at night.  We finished Supernatural series 7 last week and now we are on Lost Season 4 (which is as confusing as ever !!!!!).  We have lots more dvd's to watch and a lot of seasonal and family movies to fit in as well.  Watched a couple of stand up comedy dvd's last night.

Michael Mcintyre - Showtime.  Funny in places and well delivered stories and anecdotes A+++
Sarah Millican - Thoroughly Modern Millican.  Funny as hell.  Very crude and bare-knuckle.  She is hilarious. A++++

Been playing Doom 3 BFG edition and getting my ass kicked big time.  Solid game and so much different than 1 and 2.  3d horror at its best.  Repititious with monsters and weapons.  A+++

Picked up some good deals as well on Play.  Managed to get the Back to the Future Trilogy on Blu-ray for £10 !!!.  (bargain).  Got Lost season 4 and Season 5 on BR too for £13 and £15 respectively.

Its nice to see my beloved Liverpool FC playing better and climbing up the Premier League table.  Come on the reds !!!!!!!!!!

If any of you like good fantasy clothing (dragons, hell, fire and brimstone and all that) then try www.spiraldirect.com  Awesome collection and prices that will amaze you.  Hoodies from £12.99 !!  Tees from £8.99 and thats just the tip of the iceberg

I will try and write some more stuff before christmas and keep you posted.  Cheers for reading.

Friday 23 November 2012

Well its almost the end on November and Christmas is knocking on the door.  I am quite pleased that we are a lot more organized than we usually are at this time of year.  Most of the presents are bought and Deb is well into making Christmas cards.  The preparations are well under way.

A lot of news since I last wrote so here goes.....

On the medical front all is going well (at the moment, touch wood).  I haven't been sick for almost 4 weeks and the pain that i was getting has gone.  Good news there and I can now look forward to the Christmas season with a lot less trepidation.  Hope it continues as I really want it to be a really good Christmas this year.  We are starting festivities earlier than usual.  I want it to be about the whole month and not just a couple of days, so we are gathering a lot of family Christmas films ready for viewing, things like Santa Paws, Nativity, Snow Buddies etc......... The more the merrier.  After the last few months of being ill and not knowing what was wrong all sorts of things occurred to me, not least would I still be here at Christmas (I did fear that I had the big 'C' as all the symptoms were pointing to it).  I don't and now I can relax.

Congratulations to my sister Mandi who passed her driving test a couple of days ago and now has the honor of being the first person EVER in the UK to pass her test in an all electric car.....WTG sis xx

Congratulations also to my mum who has been accepted for her new flat in Blackpool.  In just over a week she will leave Stoke-on-Trent behind and relocate to  Lancashire.  I am glad that she will finally move and we can all worry a lot less about her as she will be a bus ride away rather than a 100 mile car journey.  I think that after twenty six years there she deserves something new.  We will be here to help her every step of the way.

I have been using a product called Poser for the last few weeks and am finally getting the hang of it.  Its a good program for making figures and creatures and its a very complicated program.  Not only do you make figures but you can change all aspects of them from their face to their feet and beyond.  I am just using the hair creativity tool and some of the results have been frightening to say the least.  One minute I have a bald figure and the next it looks like they have stuck their finger in an electric socket.LOL.  Ah well practice makes perfect so they say.

On the gaming front I am playing Borderlands 2 and am completely hooked.  Its absolutely mad in places with the most warped humor.  In places it is absolutely nigh on impossible to do.  I love the story and the characters and the choice of what sub-missions you want to do makes it even more thrilling.  Another big plus is that when you have completed it for the first time there is an option to replay it in 'Vault hunter' mode, where the weapons get better and the bad guys get harder.  I would give it an easy 9 out of 10 and thoroughly recommend it to anyone.

I wont be putting up much more of my writing and poetry as hardly anyone seems to read it.  I know there are a couple of people who like it, but not enough to justify the writing of new material.  I may write the occasional piece.

Weather to Change

She smiled at me this morning
So I think it might be a blue sky day
The stormy clouds of last night have settled
the rain appears to have gone away
Its only a smile but it seems to help
I cant remember too much about last night
I cant recall what I did wrong
Why she wanted to start a fight
The weather changes constantly
I must be careful what I say and how
Because one wrong word, a simple glance
The blue sky could become snow

It doesnt seem that long ago
When the sun shone all the time
Each day she would steal my heart
Her perfect act of crime
Our summer days would last forever
The heat would not dissipate
But the love of sun and blue sky days
Are now hurricane days of hate
So I sit here and hope it continues
Hope my smile stays and it doesn't look strange
For I know if it slips and looks like a frown
How quickly the weather can change

Update and New Poem

Its been almost another two weeks since my last post and not a lot has changed with my medical condition.  I have been on two lots of antibiotics and various other tablets to stop me being sick but so far nothing seems to work.  This has been going on for over two months now and its getting way beyond a joke.  I was prescribed some more tablets today and have to give them a two week course.  Fingers crossed.

Haven't been doing a lot other than listening to music and being on facebook (way too much).  My energy levels are practically non-existent most day and if it wasn't for my multi vitamin and iron supplement I would probably not have enough energy to write this.

Watched some television but cant seem to get focused on anything for longer than about ten minutes.  Being ill has given me the chance to get through some of the music that is back logged on my pc.  So far this week I have listened to Alyssa Reid, A-ha (3 albums), Prodigy (2 albums), Jarre (Teo and Tea), Euphoric Emotions 6, Driving rock ballads and a good 3 cd set called American Anthems.  A good set of music to suit all tastes there.

Like I said I haven't watched a lot of tv at all and no films.  Did manage to watch a lot of football last week.  Europa League and Champions League matches.  I am trying to get into my writing again and am slowly but surely getting there.

We did have a visit from an old friend of mine on Sunday (Ian and Pauline. known Ian quarter of a century). They stayed a while and we had a good chat and catch up. We had both turned 40 since we last saw each other.   The weather has been lousy for the last 48 hours and its hardly stopped raining.  We usually have a small puddle in the graveyard at the back of us and after looking out ten minutes ago it has turned into a small lake.  I swear I saw a fin sticking up out of it earlier, but that could be my new tablets............lol

Remembered

When 96 voices are heard on the wind
Then shall we remember
When all our tears flow each day
Then shall we remember
For we cannot forget that day
And memories will live forever
When 96 are thought of each day
Forever be remembered

96 candles that will never burn down
Their faces etched forever
Their smiles and tears remembered
In our hearts always
Their voices echo and carry still
Remembered on the wind

96 voices heard forever in countless hearts

What is........

What is paradise? What is paradise to you?
Is it standing on a beach, looking at an ocean blue?
Staring at a faint horizon that promises places new
Knowing in your heart that's a dream that will come true
Tell me is that paradise to you?

What is living? What is living to you?
Is it waking each new morning so you can hear the birds sing?
Is it watching the sun rise to see what the day will bring?
Or do you prefer to thank someone for taking the time to ring?
Is that living? Is that living to you?

What is hope? What is hope to you?
Is it wanting an end to the troubles that you see?
Is it wanting to find the perfect love that cannot be?
Or do you want something more, like lots of money maybe?
Is that hope? Is that hope to you?

What is love? What is love to you?
Is it holding hands and feeling part of something new?
Is it crying tears of joy when you hold a person true?
Or is it having someone that can make the grey sky blue?
Is that love? Is that love to you?

To me my paradise is anywhere you are
Its the sky above me and each and every star
Its the earth I walk upon each and every day
My paradise is with you and its where I want to stay

Living to me happens each time we speak
A feeling inside so strong, that makes my body weak
Its knowing when the darkness comes you are by my side
Laughing with your smiles and drying tears you've cried

Hope is something I keep close to my heart
Hoping you will never leave me and that we will never part
Looking at you and hoping these days will never go
Hoping that the love for me you will always show

love to me is everything about you that makes me smile
Its the journey that we walk together, every single mile
Its in the kisses that you give me and the feelings deep within
Its knowing that my life will end with you from where it did begin

Still waiting

Well another different few days.  more being ill.  I have an appointment for Thursday morning yeyyyyyy.  Well if its that long then i surmise that what is wrong with me cant be that serious.......can it?

Anyway on a lighter note.  Watched a few good films recently with Deb.  A couple of classic supernatural/horror films.  The first two were the very cool White Noise and White Noise:The Light.  I kind of like these sort of films because they are not your hollywood 'we had better please the audience' type of films.  They are grittier and tackle some of our own fears and beliefs.  The other one we have watched is the timeless Stephen King film The Tommyknockers.  It has taken us years to finally get this on dvd (thank you thats entertainment....lol).  On that note a miracle happened yesterday.  I managed to persuade my body that it was upto a trip into town and we went in Thats Entertainment and bought..................................NOTHING......!!!!!!!!!

Ok so i did pick up a couple of dvd's from B and M but that's beside the point.  I got From Paris with Love (good action film and clever story) and Copout (not seen it yet but looks cool).  Deb also managed to pick up a movie from the Poundland store called The Deal (William H Macy and Meg Ryan comedy so should be good).

Got the new Pet Shop Boys double cd through the post on Monday (Elysium).  Going to listen to it this afternoon and will let you know what its like.  Also wrote another new poem on Monday and have posted it too.  Feel free to leave comments or constructive criticism on any of my work.  I can take it...................lol

Aliens

I will not listen to the lies
The political insight and the false promises
No point in believing all their propaganda
Forgotten once you believe
I wont be swayed one way or the other
Because I know they all lie

But I will put my faith in the aliens
I will listen when they invade
I will stand and not judge them
For they must be more human than us

We look in each others eyes and lie
We turn our backs on those that need us
They teach us what we know is right to be wrong
Judge us for our colour
Disown us for the choices we make
Give us freedom of speech
As long we say what they want to hear
Tell us who we can love and why
Who are they to judge?
A day without war is like a miracle
And tears are more shed in pain than in laughter

But when the aliens invade us
They wont lie just to please us
They might take over us
But we will know what they want

So forget the politicians that lie
And the media that make us scared
Forget the religions that speak peace only to declare war
Don't let them educate you with false lies
Be deaf to their words, they will hurt you
Be like me
I have faith in the aliens

At last

Well its been almost a month since my last post and it appears my health doesn't want to improve.  I went for my Gastroscopy (see previous post) and they didn't find anything on the day but they did send of a sample for analysis (biopsy).  I got a letter today telling me that the results are back and on Monday I will hopefully learn what is wrong with me.  Its been a very hard few weeks and feeling weak all the time is not a good thing.  Simple tasks are now wearing me out very quickly and with not being able to keep much food down for almost a month, feeling weak is a common thing.  I have done hardly anything in the last few weeks (other than be sick).  Deb has tried me on various diets and I have had my medication changed again but so far nothing is working.

I have become a facebook game addict once again as this is the only thing i have the attention span for.  I just sit at my pc and listen to music.  I must have listened to at least two dozen cd's in the last three weeks (thats entertainment's fault.............LOL).

I still spend a lot of time on the phone, with people calling up to find out how i am and if there is any change.

I decided today to write a new poem.  I have been writing it in my head for the last few days and finally committed it to paper.  Enjoy please.

Tomorrow

Just thought I would drop a few lines about the last few days.  Cant say too much exciting has happened but sitting here has given me the chance to listen to a lot of music.  Made the mistake of going to thats entertainment again the other day..................lol

Seriously i could go in there with £150 and come out skint (but with a pile of cd's and dvd's).  Picked up some more albums including several cd's just called The Album (usually contain groups like Oasis, The Killers, Doves, Ash, Nickelback etc.....).  Also got the Snow Patrol cd Up to Now (double cd with their greatest hits on it).  Got the double cd of UB40 (Labour of Love 1 and 2).  Another Green Day cd to add to my collection (21st Century Breakdown).  Lots of good music there.  Also got Shine 8 and 10 (another indie compilation series that i collect).  I just need Shine 1-4 now to complete the full set.

TV wise we finished watching the first 13 episodes of Bones Season 7 and have now started watching a series that was recommended to us (Sarah our sis).  Its called Harper's Island and its kind of a murder mystery centering on an island and a wedding.  Seen two episodes so far and its got me intrigued.

Tomorrow I go for my procedure (Gastroscopy) and hopefully will finally find out what is causing the constant vomiting and nausea that i have been feeling for what seems like years.  Fingers crossed.

A Not A Lot Week

Well since my hospital trip last Saturday I have been told to take it easy for a few days, so not really a lot has happened.  I have been watching more dvd's than usual and also been listening to a lot more music too.  One piece of semi-good news is that I have had my appointment through for my Gastroscopy (its next Thursday at 1.00pm).  I am kind of glad but kind of nervous at the same time, if you know what I mean.

Had to cut down on a lot of food stuffs as didnt want to aggrevate it (if it is an ulcer...not sure).

Ok here are a few of the movies and cd;'s from this week.

Kaiser Chiefs - Employment - - A great cd and I dont think that there is a bad song on it.  Some really catchy songs that are easy to sing along to including the very addictive I predict a Riot and Oh My God.  All in all i would give this a 9 out of 10.

The Rasmus - Dead Letters - - Not everyone's cup of tea but I have a liking for The Rasmus and its nice to own one of their cd's.  Some really heavy tracks including the popular In The Shadows, but for me the best track is The Funeral Song which is deep meaningful song with excellent lyrics and a nice melodic sound.  I would give this an 8 out of 10.

Various - Pure Moods - - One of the best compilations of mood music with artists such as Jarre, Vangelis, Oldfield and Enigma.  Very relaxing and calming.  I would give this an 8 out of 10.

Chicane - The Best of - - Some really good dance tunes and very good guest singers including Tom Jones, Natasha Bedingfield and Bryan Adams.  This cd covers everything from their early years to the present day.  Well worth a listen.  I would give it a 8 out of 10.

Meat Loaf - The Very Best of - - Well for any fan this is the ultimate package.  It contains all the classics from Bat out of Hell to Life is a Lemon.  The good thing about this compilation is it also includes a few of his less well know songs such as Is Nothing Sacred and A Kiss is a Terrible Thing to Waste.  Thoroughly enjoyable and some of the songs take me back years.  I would give it a 10 out of 10.

Kelly Clarkson - Stronger - - This one was more for Deb than me but after listening to it I realise what an awesome album it is.  She manages to reach notes that seem impossible and the range and strength of her vocals is phenomenal.  Stand out tracks include the title track Stronger and the catchy Mr Know it All.  I would give this a 9 out of 10.

Now onto movies.  This week we have watched Black Sheep (totally mad film but its a car crash film because you just couldnt stop watching it).  I kind of liked it because of how ridiculous it was.  When I saw the mutant sheep all i could think of was the Spitting Image puppets (watch it and tell me I am wrong !!!!)
Also this week we watched the new Muppets Movie and It was as good as I expected.  Its a feel good film and everyone needs one of these every so often.  It was good to see that they have kept all the old favourites in (Kermit, Gonzo, Fozzy, Miss Piggy, Animal etc....) and also that they had not tried to modernize the characters.  It was also good to see them stick to the old Muppet Show style with Stadler and Waldorf making sarcastic comments and beaker taking the brunt of bad experiments.  I thought it was a classic film that will be enjoyed by all ages.  One thing left to say...........Ma-nah-Ma-nah doo doo do doo doo.  LOL

Sunday 5 August 2012

Another strange week

ok so to bring you upto date.

Its been a week since my last post and upto a certain point not a lot has happened.  Up until Friday night the week had been a 'normal' week consisting of a few days in, a couple of days out, walking the dog, talking with friends, surfing the net, playing xbox and watching dvd's.

We took my mum home on the 28th.  She really enjoyed her holiday and now she wants to move up here so we are spending a fair amount of time looking for a flat for her.

There is a new shop opened in our town centre called Thats Entertainment and its a very erm....addictive store.  They sell cd's, dvd's and games and the majority of them are what is known as 'replay' or 'second-hand'.  Now they are all guaranteed and are quality items.  They do have some new stock but these as you would expect are higher in price.  The second hand stuff varies in price from 99p each to 6 for £5.  Some of the dvd's are 3 for £5.  Some are 2.99 each etc.  They are actually online and if you are looking for some of the older cd's and dvd's then i would highly recommend them.

I managed to pick up the Rambo trilogy on Blu-Ray for £10 and they were new !!
Also got Run Fatboy Run on Blur-Ray for £3
Picked up a lot more from there and got some real good bargains.

Havent had the best of the weather for the last week and there has been intermittent sunshine, severely heavy rain, gale force winds and even some thunder and lightning (welcome to English summer.........lol)

ok so thats the normal stuff out of the way.

As i have mentioned in a previous post i have not been too well lately and the spates of dizziness and vomiting three times a day came to a head Friday night.  Early in the evening i started to get a headache and me being me waited a couple of hours to see if it would go of its own accord.  At round about the same time i also started to get a burning sensation in my chest which i again left for a couple of hours.  At about 10.00pm I decided that enough was enough and took a couple of chewable Rennie for the burning.  At 11.40pm my headache hadnt gone so i took a couple of soluble co-codamol.  We sat down to watch Surgical Spirit and as I was sitting there the burning sensation seemed to be easing and my headache slowly fading.  We went to bed at about 2.00am and I tried to lie down.  On my side it was agony so i tried to sleep on my back.  That was even worse.  I tried to hold on for as long as possible but in the end Deb called for an ambulance for me. She had wanted to straight away but i wanted to see if it would go of its own accord.  By this time i felt like my chest was on fire and that may stomach was caving in.  My first though was that i had a perforated ulcer.  Anyway an ambulance came and i was taken to the Victoria Hospital where i remained for 13 hours.  I was x-rayed, injected, drip fed and had various tests.  The good news it was not my heart.  They thought it might have been Pancreatitis (but i think this has now been ruled out).  I have got to go for something called a Gastroscopy but it is looking more and more likely that it is in fact an ulcer.  I will keep you up to date.

I am now on medication and have to take things even more easier than before.  Deb has been amazing and says no matter what it is we will get through it together.  We got home yesterday at just after 3.30pm and other than returning to the hospital at 7.30 to fetch my medication we did little else.  We watched a movie at about 9.30pm (eight legged freaks) and after it had finished at 11.00pm we turned in for the night as we were both worn out.  I cant believe it but we actually slept for over 12 hours (tired isnt the word).

Friday 27 July 2012

Ok strange week

Right so lets get up to date.

Friday 20th.

Big event of the day was our nephew Matthew's 5th Birthday.  We went to his little dinner party (me, mum and Deb) and Sarah volunteered to watch the dog (she watched the Womens Football but said it was boring).  In the evening we didnt do a lot other than chill.  Jennine, Libby and Ben came up for the weekend to see Tony next door and we stood out on the decking having a talk and socialising.

Saturday 21st

Me Deb and Sarah went to fleetwood while my mum watched the dog.  Had a good day out and a nice meal at a high street chip shop.  Deb and Sarah managed to find a few crafting items that they were after and I found a couple of items in the charity shops.  Again not a lot happened in the evening although we ended up having a couple of alcoholic beverages.  Me and Sarah had a couple of Jim Beam and cokes and my mum and Deb had Snowballs.

Sunday 22nd

My mum got an invitation from my sister to go up for Sunday Dinner, so me Deb and Sarah had a nice simple dinner of chicken and chips (deb had chips and salad).  In the afternoon we watched a couple of films.  The Raven (which i enjoyed even though it wouldnt be everyone's cup of tea) and also the remake of Fright Night (which David Tennant definitely stole).  It was a nice afternoon and we all just chilled and relaxed.  Had a couple of beers in the afternoon.

Monday 23rd

Well it was quite a sad day today as Sarah went home (we miss her a lot).  Me Deb and Tony took her back while mum once again watched the dog.  Got to see one of our other mum's ........lol (Janet, Sarah's mum) and sorted out a pc problem while I was down there.  Had a fairly strange journey down there as the Sat Nav was determined to try and take us onto the toll road.  We eventually made it to our destination by a rather unorthodox route.  Said our goodbye's to Sarah (Anfield here we come..........soon) and had a easier journey back home.  Nothing much happened in the evening and we went bed early as we were both shattered from the travelling (7 hours drive)

Tuesday 24th

Went to Cleveleys and had a look in the charity shops.  I picked up another book, deb found a few items including a halti collar (easy leader) that after trying on Jess we realised was too big.and mum got a couple of jigsaws.  We had a good walk and when we got back not a lot happened for the rest of the day other than I ordered Deb an Amazon Kindle from Argos and arranged to pick it up the next day.  A quiet evening after I sorted out a couple of Laptop issues for Jennine and Libbie.  Me and Tony had a couple of Fireballs (alcoholic spirit that should be called 'wow that bloody burns')

Wednesday 25th.

That week flew.  Today we went back to cleveleys so I could collect Deb's Kindle and Deb could swap the dog collar.  Mum was bad and bought another two jigsaws (We bought her a 1000 piece muppet jigsaw.............lol).  We got back back and Deb was eager to try out her new toy....lol.  She is really impressed with it and spent a lot of the evening getting used to all its functions, and getting it connected to our wifi so she could download some free books.

Thursday 26th

Not much to write about here other than a doctors appointment for me that went rather strangely.  For the last week I havent been feeling too good, dizziness, slurring words, jumbling words and random bouts of throwing up.  I think it all started with an incident that happened the day after my birthday.  Anyway the doctor said that as I had blacked out for a couple of minutes that it could have been linked to stress and he gave me this wonderful piece of advice that I will take to my grave.  'If you are going to get stressed........don't'.  Yes that's what he advised, well that solved my problems......................NOT.  He at least changed my painkiller prescription from nurofen to soluble co-codamol.  Deb was not impressed with the appointment and says I should get a second opinion.  In the evening I watched the GB v Senegal men's football and thought that we were robbed of a penalty that was so blatant it was unbelieveable.  It ended 1-1.  Later that evening me and Deb watched Absolutely Fabulous Olympic episode and it was as funny and mental as ever.

Friday 27th

Got up today feeling well out of it and very spaced.  Mum went to town on her own and me and Deb just did our usual stuff on computers. And that dear blog brings you bang up to date................

Thursday 19 July 2012

40th Birthday

I was somewhat overwhelmed with all the birthday greetings I got from facebook and also the amount of people that asked me how my day went, so here goes.

I awoke at 8.30am, dressed and came downstairs.  About ten minutes later the rest of the house (my fiancee Deb, best friend Sarah and mum) came down and joined me.  We sat at the table enjoying a first cup of tea of the day and then they all disappeared and reappeared five minutes later laden with bags and cards.  I opened all my cards and presents.  I received.

DVD Boxset of Bourne Films
DVD boxset of Billy Connolly stand up
Only Fools and Horses Monopoly
Three T-Shirts (2 only fools and horses and a Dads army one)
Animal notebook
Beaker and Animal Plush toys (12 inch tall)
Socks x 2 pairs (Fab at 40)
Small photoframe keyring
Mug and Coaster sets x 2
Tankard and Bottle Opener Set (Only Fools and Horses)
Huge 40 Badge

After opening these and answering various phone calls I then enjoyed a nice bacon sandwich and another cup of tea.  Once this was finished I was sent out of the house for a couple of hours.  Tony took me upto Micks and while there I enjoyed a couple of glasses of a very nice white wine and talked about all sorts.

At about 12.45 I was driven back home to find that the street had been decorated with 40 banners andballoons.  They had even put posters of me in various funny poses that had been taken over the years all over the lamp posts.  I entered the house to find more banners and balloons and also that there was a party planned for me.  As well as the people mentioned above there was also my sister Paula and my Brother in Law Andy, Tonys mum Janet and our other friend Sarah.  I opened more cards and was given more presents including a large leather book that contained the history of Liverpool FC from 1906 to 2011, a Liverpool Beanie Hat, £20, and also a Limited Edition Dragon Cuckoo Clock that had been brought for me by most of the people there.  I also had four bottles of wine given to me by Mick.  As I went into the hall I was informed by Deb that my main present hadnt arrived and she proceeded to tell me what it was.  She had paid for a VIP trip to anfield for me and a friend (had to be Sarah), a 3 course VIP lunch in one of the executive boxes, a tour of the stadium and trophy room and a meet with a Liverpool Legend.  I was stunned into silence !!!!!!!!!!!!!

The buffet was really nice and everyone had made such an effort to make my day so special.  We talked and socialized for the rest of the day and later in the afternoon Tony brought me round another present which was another DVD, the boxset of Duty Free.

I had a few drinks and as the people left in the evening it got nice and quiet and me and Sarah had a couple of Jim Beam and cokes to finish of the night.  I went onto the Play website and decided to spend my £20.  I bought Harpers Island and The New Statesmen Boxsets.  I also went onto facebook and caught up with all my emails and messages.  It was a hectic day but it was also a day I will never forget.

Today I got up at about 9.30 and after we had all sat around talking for a bit the post arrived.  Here was my main present.  All the details about my Anfield trip there in colour right in front of me.  I had to look twice to believe it.  We cant wait to go (we can go any time in the next ten months).  At about midday we all went town and met up with Paula and Andy and went for a meal at a lovely town pub called The Rose and Crown.  It was a really nice family meal and everything went good.  After leaving there we decided to have a walk through town and I got another couple of DVD's.  The excellent Hostage with Bruce Willis and the timeless Italian Job (the Michael Caine version).  I waited outside the Disney shop while Deb, Sarah and my mum went to look around.  When they came out I found out my mum had bought me Swedish Chef to go with the other two she had already got me.  By the time we got home we were all worn out and we have been chilling for the rest of the evening

Oh The Memories

Well when I was a kid
Remember the times I hid
And didn't do as I was bid
Oh the memories

And when I was a teen
And life wasn't so supreme
But I lived as if in a dream
Oh the memories

My twenties came at me too fast
And I thought that they would always last
But I blinked and they had passed
Oh the memories

Now my thirties what a decade
All the choices that I made
My life no longer afraid
Oh the memories

Now into my forties I stare
And I see my future there
And they will take me, I know not where
I wonder what memories

Last Day.................

Well its currently 11.20am on the 17th July and i am well on my way into the last day of my thirties.

Its been overall a good decade for me.  I have spent every year of it with my fiancee Deb and a lot has happened.  In ten years we have moved 3 times.  Firstly from Stoke to Blackpool and then twice when in Blackpool.  We have gone from a two bedroom flat to a three bed semi-detached house.  We also now own a dog.  But still it seems like the last decade has passed by me in a blur.  My condition has deteriorated somewhat but not to any severity (i can still live).

So tomorrow i leave my thirties behind me and enter a new decade.  I wonder what my 40's will bring.  I have plans.  First and foremost I want to marry Deb.  I also want to stop wasting my days and get some of my work published.  I am a terrible procrastinator and this is something I wish to stop.

At the moment Deb and Sarah have nipped into our village and my mum and me are just passing time waiting for them to return.  The dog is fast asleep and I decided to catch up on my blog.

The last few days haven't really heralded much.  Yesterday I stayed in with the dog while everyone else went to the town center (i wasnt allowed.......lol)  Last night we watched Despicable Me which i thought was a good film with a nice few bits of humour.  We all sat down and watched it together and i think the others enjoyed it too.

Fetching Sarah and my mum on Saturday went surprisingly well and apart from a ten minute traffic jam there were no other problems.  We set out just after 9.30am and arrived in Leicester just after 12.15 (not bad timing).  On the way down we listened to some cd's.  Enigma and The Prodigy (what a mixture).  On the way from Leicester to Stoke we played Meat Loaf and then once my mum was in the car I played a 60's cd.........lol.  We arrived in Blackpool shortly after 4.30.

Sunday was a nothing day and I spent most of the day playing PC games (i know i am a big kid).  The game I am playing is called Kingdoms of Amalur and it is immense.  So far I have been playing it for almost 48 hours (gameplay time) and I have half of the map left to open yet.  I love RPG's.  The other one I am determined to finish is called Skyrim (I am level 37 at the moment).

Well next time I write I will have aged another year so bye to my thirties !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Friend

Such a good friend, always there for me
A person who I can trust with my life
Remembering that we have known each other years
And I know that we always will be friends
How lucky I am to have someone who understands me

Heart like a diamond, she is so full of loving
One in a million a ray of sunshine in the rain
Voice that talks to me, treats me like a brother
Each day we speak and never run out of things to say
Life would be boring if she was not a part of mine
Let everyone be lucky enough to have a friend like you

Friday 13th aggggggggghhhhhhhhhh

Well its 15.15pm on friday 13th july and its absolutely pee....erm....raining :)

its been a busy week as we have been preparing for the arrival (we fetch them tomorrow from leicester and stoke respectively) of my best friend Sarah and my mum.

We have literally not stopped all week preparing and getting the house ready (Deb has even dusted the cobwebs and polished the spiders legs........lol).  Went town on Tuesday and again today.  Got everything we are going to need (hopefully).  Did an online Tesco shop and a Iceland delivery (both arriving in the next hour).  Poor Deb has been rushed of her feet both with offline and online activities.  She has been cleaning one minute and designing the next.  I have offered to postpone my 40th birthday for a couple of years but she wont let me.............lol

Went Poundland again today and picked up some more dvd's.  I keep trying to avoid the place but it draws me in like a magnet and when you are only paying £1 for a dvd, you cant really complain.

We are leaving at about 9.30am tomorrow and are going to Leicester first to pick up Sarah.  We cant wait to see her as she is one of those friends that I can talk to everyday and never run out of things to say.  We watched almost every match in Euro 2012 together, while talking on the phone.  Have known her for erm..................a long time.  If you want to know more about her then see my poem today :)

We are hoping to be in Leicester for about midday time and after having a brew and a chat its up to sunny Stoke to collect my mother.  Sarah is staying until the 23rd (it will go so quick :( ) and my mum is staying until 28th or 29th (it will go so slowwww............lol).  Only joking.

What Might Have Been

They meet every month for a drink in the town
always have a smile though their lives are lived behind a frown
and they always manage to smile at each other no matter when the day
for they are friends to each other and that's how it must stay
they have known each other for over twenty years
and they still remember school day laughs and sometimes even tears
and they married both a while ago and families they have got
but that first childhood kiss will never be forgot
so they sit and they talk though each burns deep within
for their real chance at love, a game they know they will never win
and they always tell each other about how good their lives now are
but for the want of a special love each will bear the scar

when they are done they say their goodbyes with a soft kiss on the cheek
and each one will count down the minutes, the hours and the weeks
they will look into their children's eyes and and see a past that slipped away
and lying in bed they will always see the love they shared that day
and its funny how life's journey sometimes takes us of our course
and we never get the chance to rewind or even pause
for this life is just a click of the fingers and its soon done and gone
so don't stare into the darkness when in front of you is the sun
take a chance when it appears it could just be your last
for there is no point living the future but regretting the past

Come on Andy

Well its been a strange few days, especially weather wise.  We have had sun, rain, wind, thunder and lightning and all within four days.  The thunder wasn't much but it was enough to scare our dog who didn't know what to do with her self.  She was either snuggled up next to me at my computer desk or snuggled up to Deb while she was designing on her laptop.

Good news on the sport front this week so far.  England have once again showed how good they are at one day cricket by taking a 3-0 lead against Australia and now people are complaining because we didn't win easy enough (some people are never satisfied).

Wimbledon provided us with some good news (for a nice change) Andy Murray through to the Wimbledon Mens Final (as i write this he is 1-0 up in sets).  I think back to a few days before Wimbledon started and I was on yahoo sport because i had just heard that Murray had been given a tough draw.  What amazed me was how negative people were i.e. he wont get past Davydenko and if he does he wont get past Karlovic and if he does.....etc.etc.   I am glad he has proved all those people wrong but even if he wins i bet there will still be those who say "well he wont win it next year" LOL

Havent done a lot in the last few days as the weather has been detrimental to our activities.  We have walked the dog a few times and she has definitely settled in perfectly (she is as mad as we are now :)  ).

Have finished my Steptoe and Son boxset and I am very disappointed because they have cut one of the christmas specials.  I hate it when they do this because it spoils the program if you have already seen it in its entirety.  While I am on my soap box there is another thing that really gets to me about TV.  Why oh why do they insist on hypeing up a program with interviews and stories in the tv guides and then cancel it as it gets interesting.  This has happened a lot recently and to name one example Terra Nova.  A great sci-fi/futuristic fantasy series and after one series (and leaving you with a million questions) they have axed it.  I suppose that is the problem with the UK getting a lot of American shows, we never know when they will be taken off.

Me and Deb settled down to watch a movie last night (first one for a while).  We watched Transformers 3 Dark of the Moon and I didnt think it was too bad at all.  It was obvious that most of the budget went on the Robotics and Special Effects and it was very visually appealing.  It was also cool to hear the great Leonard Nimoy voicing one of the Autobots.  My main gripe was them replacing the leading woman Megan Fox.  The new actress was very transparent in her acting.  She tried but i think that the film lost a lot of its appeal for me because of the change (and Sarah stop smiling please as you are reading this).

Tears

They appear for countless reasons
Sometimes we want them and sometimes they just appear
There are times when we can stop them, but dont
There are times when we should show them, but dont
They are a sign of emotion, some say weakness
They can be joy, they can be pain
They can bring a smile or a frown
They can mean the happiest day of your life
Or the worst thing that has ever happened to you
We sometimes hide from them, smile behind them
Strong if we dont show them, wrong if we dont show them
And no matter how many go, there are countless left
Tears.

Happy 4th July

To all those that celebrate it just wanted to wish you all a very happy 4th July :)

Well on my last update I pointed out that I was looking forward to the Euro 2012 final and to be honest it didn't really live up to the billing.  I thought that Spain deserved to win but not 4-0.  I also thought that Italy were desperately unlucky to lose two players through injury (one only four minutes after coming on).  I think Spain are a showboating team and I really don't believe that they are as good as they think they are.  They are enjoying a good spell of wins at the moment but I can almost guarantee that it will end soon. Its like anything, all good things come to an end.  Look at the domination of Brazil in the seventies.  Argentina were awesome in the eighties and even France had their time in the limelight, but look now.

Went town yesterday and once again went into poundland and picked up a ridiculous spoof film (which i would not have bought for any more than the £1 we paid for it).  Its called Rubber and its about a killer tyre (yes you read that correct).  I like b-movies and it will be good for a laugh if nothing else.

Had some more Amazon vouchers on Monday night and so I ordered

1)  Steptoe and Son and Steptoe and Son ride again double movie pack
2)  Hitchikers guide to the galaxy (the series not the film)
3)  Surgical Spirit boxset

I love tv comedy and tv series and these will make a good addition to our collection.  I have almost finished the boxset of Steptoe and only have the christmas specials to watch.  We are about halfway through the series of Fringe we are watching and have no idea what we are watching next.

Only ten days until I fetch my sis Sarah from Leicester and my mum from Stoke.  Only two weeks until 40 aaaaaghhhhhhhhh !!!!

Heard not long ago that we have lost a comedy legend today ............R.I.P. Eric Sykes 1923-2012

Decades

I remember the 70's but only a little
for I was born in 72
and I remember the queens jubilee in 77
waving my flag, red white and blue
The red hot summer of 76
with temperatures of 30 every day
and I remember the infant school where I was educated
funny how the years slip away

now into the eighties and this was my time
the decade where I spent most of my teens
from the early computers, the spectrums, the commodores
and having fun in the years inbetween
the music I listened to, erasure, depeche mode
pet shop boys, duran duran and much more
buying vinyl that I just had to own
playing loud until a knock on my door

well the nineties they came and my real life started
here was the chance to build a career
learning computers and office work, writing games and software
and finally old enough to drink beer
having my first proper relationship
and learning the hardships of life
believing that my life would just go on and on
while dealing with anguish and strife

well the millenium reared its head and a new century began
and for me it was to be a wonderful year
for this was when I met my fiancee Deb
and my future became crystal clear
well its 2012 now and as I approach 40
I look back at my life and its journey to date
but I see a future with smiles and tears yet to fall
and the paths that it will create

Trip into town

Well Saturday we decided to take a risk and head into town for a couple of hours.  Didnt need anything in particular just a walk around.  While we were down there we called into a place called Poundland and found three dvd's.

1) Death Note - a very good japanese movie (i like japanese films)
2) Kaiji - Japanese movie again (same cast as Death Note)
3) The Legend of Lucy Keyes (looks like a nice b-movie thriller/horror)

Its amazing the things that you can pick up in Poundland.  Had a little walk around town and picked up a few more items and then came back home.  At various points in the day it looked like the heavens would open but i am thankful to say that they didnt.  We are already ten days into Summer and have so far had eight days where it has rained at some point in the day.  Good old english summer.

Later in the afternoon i watched some more of my steptoe and son boxset (5 episodes to be exact) and had a good laugh at the antics of the two main characters and the situations they find themselves in.  Didnt do a lot else yesterday other than watch another episode of Fringe before we went to bed.

Sunday morning and the sky was dark and the weather depressing when i dragged myself from my pit at 10.30 this morning (i know its lazy but its Sunday).  Its now 13.45 and though we keep having odd bursts of sun and some blue sky the majority of it is still dark and depressing.

Well done Andy Murray for winning again yesterday and its good that he is in the last 16 again ( hope he can do really well this year).  On another sporting note it is the second one day match between England and Australia at cricket and lets hope we put on another good performance like we did in the victory the other day.  Also its the big Euro 2012 final today and that is going to be the highlight of my weekend.  Just hope Italy win.

The Tree

The tree sits silent in the ground where it was planted
And the branches bowed with time, are uneven and slanted
And I look upon it now in the shimmering Autumn haze
And its seems only a moment since my foolish childhood days

I remember the first time I climbed up in the tree
Its was a hundred foot tall, well it looked that way to me
And it seemed like it was living, it was like a friend
And in its branches and foliage my childhood I would spend

In the spring it would be happy as it was clothed anew
And it appeared to cry tears, from the early morning dew
All the branches lifted, like arms thanking the sky
And the spring breezes blew the leaves and taught them how to fly

I would sit in the summer watching sunsets from afar
I would sit there at night just looking at the stars
I would climb the highest branches, then try to touch the clouds
And sometimes sit and watch all the birds that flew around

In the autumn I would watch as the leaves turned brown and dropped
And the naked branches beckoned me to climb right to the top
And with the skeletal branches as cover from the day
I would find my peace and quiet, and wish that I could stay

In the winter I would marvel at branches bowed with snow
And listen as the robins high above flew to and fro
And build a snowman guard to watch over the tree
And brush the powdery snow, from what was a friend to me

Well the tree has changed a lot now and the branches gnarled and worn
And graffiti and slogans on its burnt black trunk adorn
For like me, time has taken its toll on my tree
Though it will always be, my childhood home to me

Good Final Looming

Right so its 18.49 on the 29th June and i cant help wondering where the heck did June go???

Seems a day or so ago that we were welcoming June in and now we are ready to wave it goodbye.  Its also hard to believe that its been three weeks since the Euro 2012 started and on Sunday its the final !!!!!!!!!!  On that note would just like to say i thought that Portugal were unlucky to lose against Spain and commend them for the way they played.  I thought that they played the better football and deserved to go through to the final.  I think Spain passed the ball to death and completely spoiled the game.  Getting knocked out on penalties is tough (ask England) and i hope one day there is another way to end these matches (no idea what though).  I think that Fabregas saying that he talked to the ball has emphasized to me how much Spain have lost the plot.

Last nights game was another matter altogether.  I really enjoyed how both teams wanted to attack right from the start and although Germany tried i think Italy had the perfect game plan and the germans just couldnt handle Balotelli.  I am not his greatest fan but last night i think he had the game of his life.  His movement both on and off the ball was brilliant to watch and he took both of his goals superbly.  Overall i dont think that the germans could argue that the best team won on the night.  I am really looking forward to the final and I hope Italy can finally bring Spain crashing back down to reality.  Come on ITALY !!!!!!!!!!!

My new cd arrived today and I played it this afternoon.  Fun are a very talented group of musicians and singers and i believe that they will go even further.

I also listened to another cd this afternoon that i have had for several weeks but hadnt had the chance to enjoy.  Its from one of my all time favourite groups called Depeche Mode and the cd is called Sounds of the Universe.  As i own every studio album that they have released there was never a danger that i wouldnt like this but it was nice to hear them doing what they have always done best, keeping their style and letting Dave do the business with his unique voice.  I would say this is up there with some of their best work.  It has hints of Ultra about it but also encompasses some similar sounds to Playing the Angel.  I would give it 5 stars *****

Havent really done much else except last night we settled down to watch another three episodes of the excellent Fringe.

Does it hurt?

You look at me through eyes of red, jealousy?
I got away from you and now you want me back
You should have worked harder when you had the chance
Put more into the relationship, much more
Treated me better, showed you loved me more
Does it hurt?

To know I have another, someone new
Someone who loves me for who I am
Happy with me, happy for me
A smile even when there is nothing to smile for
Easy for her to say ' I love you'
You struggled, always
Does it hurt?

When you look at me and I am happy
Does it make you angry, sad, resentful?
You had your chances, and there were lots
I tried to make it work, believe me
But there is only so much pain a person can take
And I took more than my share
You hurt me, you destroyed me, you belittled me
So I ask again, does it hurt?

Nothing kind of day

The reason i didnt write a post yesterday wasnt anything to do with being, lazy, busy or away from pc, it was simply that it was just a boring day .............lol

The highlights were two, well three i suppose.

1).  We took the dog for a walk and then fetched some biscuits (excited yet ?)
2).  I played more of my Kingdoms of Amalur game and got a lot further (gripping stuff)
3).  We watched a movie called The Pact (not as good as i thought it would be)

See, like i said not a lot happened.

Oh i did get to see my great niece yesterday which was a definite plus.  Mikey (her dad) popped down to see us.

Ok so onto Wednesday and again not a lot has happened today either.

Did a few surveys, got a couple of vouchers (amazon), got a Barclaycard application (which i didnt want).

After taking the dog for her midday walk we popped into see our friend Tony on the way back (he only lives next door.........lol).  Stayed for a cup of tea and a thirty minute chat and then returned home to do some laundry (dont know how i cope with the excitement).  Had to call the water board as there appears to be a problem with the drain that seems to be emanating from further down the street.  As i write this we are awaiting the man to turn up.

Hope the football tonight is good.  Portugal v Spain and i know Portugal have a lot to prove.

Oh a quick update on the dog.  Her ear infection is clearing up nicely and she is getting back to her dopey self .............lol

Did I Tell You

Did I tell you that I love you
Did you hear the words I said
Though no voice assailed your ears
You must have seen it in my eyes
Or was it in my smile
The smile that I save just for you
Was it my smile or my eyes
That told you that I love you

Did I tell you that I love you
Without a single word spoke
Was it the way I held your hand
As we walked down the beach to the sea
Was it the way I held you close
As we stood to watch the sun set
Was it my holding you close
That told you that I love you

Did I tell you that I love you
When you opened your eyes
When you welcomed in the daylight
As we sat on the beach hand in hand
Knowing our future was together
As I reached out and touched you
I saw you smile and I realised
You were telling me you loved me

Penalties again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well what a day Sunday and Monday turned out to be.  Lets start with the cd's i was reviewing.

1) Maroon 5 - Overexposed.  A good cd with some very catchy and upbeat tunes Adam Levine once again is in good voice no more so than on the excellent Payphone.  I also particularly liked the choices of songs as the subject matter ranges from the fun element to the more serious side of relationship breakups.  I would give it a 4 star rating ****

2) Gotye - Making Mirrors.  Again another good cd with a lot of very easy to listen tunes.  Very Enigmaesque in places and the stand out tracks for me were the catchy Somebody that i used to know and the very cleverly synthesized track State of the art (which is about new technology).  A pleasant enough cd for me but wont be to everyone's liking.  I would give it a 3 star rating ***

3) Fun. - Some Nights.  This cd quite literally blew me away.  From the very first track I was completely hooked.  I was worried that the track We are Young would prove to be all there was good about the cd but I am glad I was wrong.  Its kind of alternative rock in places and the stand out tracks for me are All Alright which is a nice song about when times are bad, Carry on which is another upbeat track that will get you singing along and the bonus track Out on the Town.  Three hours after listening to this cd I was purchasing it from Amazon.  I would give it 5 stars *****

After listening to music all afternoon I relaxed myself by watching the England V Italy Euro 2012 Quarter Final.  First of all let me say that Italy deserved to win on chances created and shots on goal but credit to England to getting it to penalties.  As in the past this proved our stumbling block and we went out 4-2 after Young and Cole missed for us and Montolivo missed for Italy.

I think overall England didn't have a bad tournament and can take a lot of positives from it.  We are an up and coming squad with a new manager and a lot of new faces on the pitch.  I thought that Gerrard was excellent as captain and proved his worth in Midfield too.  Glen Johnson to me was our best defender in the tournament.  Anyone who thought we might win it was slightly deluded and rather hopeful.  We never really looked capable of winning the tournament but fingers crossed for the world cup 2014 qualifiers.

We finished of the night with another episode of the excellent fantasy/sci-fi program Fringe.

Ok so I am including most of Monday on this blog page too as its 8.46pm at the moment.  I would have written this earlier but its been kind of a hectic day what with one thing and another.  First thing I did this morning was to get a vet appointment lined up for Jess (she has an ear infection :(   ).  I called the PDSA but they said it would be almost another 36 hours before they could see her.  I then rang around and got her an appointment with a vets that just happened to be a ten minute walk away from us.  We took her this afternoon and hopefully her infection will clear up soon.

After sorting out the dog i rang our landlord about us not being able to get out the front door.  He sent someone round and although he has sorted out the problem for now its a definite that the door will have to be replaced with a new one.  The carpenter has done a good job and at least now we can get out the door.............lol

New Love

New love
I have found new love
I have found new hopes
I have found new dreams
with my new love
she is my world
my everything
without her I am nothing
the moon without stars
a Sun without heat
a planet without life

her heart
her voice
her smile
it's my new love
a different love
the same person
but new feelings
just for her
my new love
always a new day

No Rain............well almost :)

Ok so it stopped raining and held off for about 18 hours until the heavens opened once more.  Its quite calm here now, overcast but humid.  Its been a nothing sort of day today, but then again it is Sunday.

The dog finally got to go for a proper walk yesterday and because of the rain our wooden front door expanded. We got it open but then it took about 30 minutes to get it closed.  We have now decided to wait until tomorrow morning and get the landlord to come and rescue us........lol   I suppose thats what happens when you have a wooden door.  This has happened before and the landlord has sent someone to shave a couple of inches of the bottom of the door.  If this goes on much longer we will be the only house in the street with saloon doors for the front door.........LMAO.

I am going to do something different this afternoon.  I have three cd's i want to listen too and i will give my verdict in tomorrows post (provided i listen to all three).  The three cd's are:

1) Maroon 5 - Overexposed (which includes the single Payphone)
2) Fun. - Some Nights (which contains the very catchy song We Are Young)
3) Gotye - Making Mirrors (which contains another song i cant get out of my head Somebody That I Used To Know)

I like Maroon 5 and have all their previous cd's.  Hope this will be as good as the rest.  The Fun. album is a tester as i have only heard one song from them and its very good, if the rest are as good then should be an ok listen.  I heard the Gotye song and couldn't get it out of my head.  Took me a while to figure out who sang it.  Someone told me they were called Gotye but i thought they meant Gaultier (as in Jean Paul Gaultier) and wondered why i couldnt find it (sometimes i can be a bit thick like that :) )

The football last night was a bit of a disappointment to me.  France didn't really look that bothered for most of the game and I think that they let Spain dictate and basically bore me to death (the game ended 2-0 but I had long since lost interest at that point).  It pains me to say this but I really hope that Portugal can beat Spain and end their smug superiority.  They seem to play now like they think that they own the pitch.  I feel sorry for Llorente who is an exceptional striker and so far hasn't played one minute as Spain seem to prefer playing with no strikers at the start and when they do bring on a striker it is evidently Torres !!!!!!!!!!!!

Finished of the night by watching the first episode of Season 4 of Fringe.  As its been a while since we saw Season 3 it took me a few minutes to catch up with the story and remember where it left off.  First episode wasn't too bad and hopefully watching more tonight after the little football match between England and Italy !!!!!!!!!!

Wow the excitement.  Its the biggest game this new England team have played so far and will be a real test of just how focused and determined they can be.  Italy will be out to prove their calibre on the world front so should be a good game.

Jess

I come down the stairs and there she is
Blurred reflection through the dining room door
Tell her to lie down but its no use
Her excitement gets the better of her and she jumps madly
I try to calm her down but give in eventually
I sit and she is all over me, paws and tongue saying hello
I stroke her and she relaxes in my arms
She hears deb and I know she will do the same to her
I wait until she closes the door and release her
She almost knocks deb to the floor in her excitement

Deb feeds her and after this ritual she is walked
She returns to a treat if she has been good
She spends the rest of the morning asleep
A contented look on her face makes us both smile
She wakes and thinks its time to play
She chases through the house like a tornado
Fur falling from her as she rolls on the carpet
She fetches her ball and I hear the squeaking as I sit at my pc
Occasionally she brings it to us and waits
Waits for one of us to pick it and throw it

Its midday and time for another walk
We take her together, her excitement never wavers
She pulls and whines in her anticipation of freedom
I try and keep up with her but she is too agile for me
I grin as I see deb trying to control her and calm her
No chance, she is out and this is her time
In the afternoon more sleeping and playing
She comes for a fuss when she needs one
A bark and I know that someone has entered our gate
Another walk, a feed, some more fusses, a dogs life

Another day tomorrow, another day with Jess.

It didnt stop !!!!!!!

Well we gave it our best shot last night and eventually had to concede to the rain.  It rained for a solid 24 hours and by the time it was finished i swear i saw Noah and his ark go past twice............  :)

Because of the torch parade not happening (for us) i decided to try out my new X-box game Lego Batman 2.  I know what you are thinking.........childish game right............well to be honest YES and i don't care......lol.  I have made it a point to collect every lego game on the xbox and let me tell you that they have given me hours and hours of countless fun.  From the first Star Wars Lego to the newest Batman one they have all had their good points.  I have recently found out that the next one is to be Lego Lord of the Rings (yeyyyyyyyyyyy).

Well I pre-ordered the game and it arrived yesterday.  I think i did well because i waited over 6 hours after having it before i tried it out (a miracle for me).  It was strange because this is the first Lego game where the characters actually speak in human voices instead of the usual incomprehensible gabble.  I have only played the first two missions and already i can tell that its going to be a good game.  Will keep you upto date in further posts.  I realised yesterday that there are still four or five lego games that i have yet to complete including the Harry Potter and Indiana Jones 2 ones.  Shall have to dig them out and complete them.

After an hour or two of playing i decided to watch the football.  It was Germany v Greece and there were times when it looked like the teams shouldn't have even been on the same pitch such was the difference in class.  Germany attacked from the off and after wasting a handful of chances they eventually scored to lead 1-0 at the break.  In the second half there was more German pressure which is why it came as a surprise to see Greece draw level with a well taken goal on the break.  The excitement didn't last long though as the Germans quickly made it 2-1 then 3-1 then 4-1 with some well taken goals before Greece had a late penalty.  It finished 4-2 and has seen Germany progress to the Semi-final where they will play the winner of tomorrow nights game between Italy and England.  Portugal will play the winner of tonight's match between Spain and France.

Its good to be back writing again and nice to know that people still like my work (thanks for the comments about my poem The River).  The poem I have written today is a day in the life of the latest addition to the household.  She is a German Shepherd/Lurcher cross called Jess.

The River

I remember when we walked, talked and held hands
First time together, the sun beating down, our hearts melting
We sat and smiled, time stood still, everything disappeared
We were alone, we were together, the river reflected our smiles
We threw our cares into the wind and they were carried away
We stood and watched as the river, the smooth river, flowed ever on

I remember all the times that we walked by that river
We saw days where the sun reflected of its glass surface and dazzled us
Days where the mist dropped and covered its surface, nothing could be seen
There were times when the cold enveloped it and hardened its surface
The ice too fragile to walk on but it glistened like buried crystals
We saw all those days, as we walked down by the river

Its all gone now and I stand here with the memories, clinging to them
You went away and now the river seems to mock me
It carries on flowing and its surface looks black and evil to me
I stand by its side and wonder what went wrong, why did you go?
Above me the blue sky is no more, the dark clouds congregate
and as the rain starts to fall so do my tears, into the river.

Just typical

Well its friday the 22nd June and the weather is absolutely terrible.  Torrential rain, severe wind, and 50mph gusts of the coast.  It had to happen today of all days, for you see today is the day when the Olympic torch passes through Blackpool on its way to its final destination.  We were supposed to be going to witness this once in a lifetime occasion, but as we would be soaked to the skin after five minutes leaving the house, i think we will pass.  However if the weather improves and the rain stops (as much chance as platting fog...lol) then we will attend.

I am going to start this blog again and start doing a lot more writing.  The reason for this is two-fold.

1.)  I am fed up just sitting here day after day playing facebook games (though they do help pass the time)
2.)  I am fast approaching 40 and so far have achieved nothing personally in my life (this doesnt count my home life)

So as from today I will hopefully be making posts on a regular basis and also posting more of my poetry and short stories.  I hope people do take ten minutes or so to just check out my blog when i post a new poem or daily update as it makes it worth while doing.  If not it feels like a 'dear diary' situation.

As i said i am fast approaching 40 and would like to (at some point) get some of my work published.  Anyone interested in my poetry can read it at www.thestarlitecafe.com.  Just search for the poet sonofdel and that will take you to my work.

Its been a good fortnight for me as i have been glued to every match in the Euro 2012 tournament and have so far enjoyed what has been a really entertaining competition.  After seeing Portugal get through to the Semi-final last night by beating Czech Rep 1-0 (cant believe Czech's made it through to the quarter final and then didnt have one shot on target in the whole match, huge disappointment) i believe that it really could be anyones this year.  I have to say the England have so far impressed me by first standing tall against France (one of the favourites), beating Sweden 3-2 after being 2-1 down and then grinding out a 1-0 victory over Ukraine (host nation) to finish top of the group.  WTGGGGG

Playing against Italy will be a real eye-opener for a lot of the team as most of them wont have ever done so before.  I think if we play our game right and make sure that we dont just try and hit on the break then we could surprise them and get through to the Semi's (a good achievement for a new team with a new manager).

Germany should see of Greece tonight but they cant take it for granted.  Greece are a steely team with a lot of determination and resolve and if Germany take their foot of the gas then Greece could sneak a win.

France against Spain i cannot guess.  Spain have all the close control players, while France have a lot of good talented indivduals who can turn a game in minutes (against Ukraine they did that).  And even though France lost 2-0 to Sweden with a below par performance dont forget that Spain were less than convincing in their final group game.

Predictions..........tough one

Germany 2 - 1 Greece
Spain  2 - 2 France (Spain 3-2 on penalties)
England 1-0 Italy (fingers crossed)

And after that............hmmmmm

May 19th................Wow time flies.

Well i cant believe that its been 3 years since my dear old dad passed away.  There doesnt go a day when i dont want to pick up the phone and have a good talk with him about......well anything really, from football to politcs.  We had some good times and shared a lot of laughs.  We kind of lost touch for a while but i am thankful to say we sorted things out and became father and son once more.  I miss you dad and have written this for people to remember their loved ones and always keep that candle burning............

Candle

They say that when we are born a candle starts to glow
and it flickers bright both day and night for all our life
and some say it lives while we live and then fades when we pass
that the glow vanishes and is replaced by another life
i dont belive that the flame ever dies as long as it is remembered
by those whose lives were brightened by that flame
by those whose lives were changed by that flame
and those whose own light was created by that flame
I believe that the flame glows as long as it is carried
in the hearts, in the heads and in the memories
a candle can burn forever if we want it to
