Poem of the Week

What does it Matter

If I am lying in street would you stop and help me
What if I had a sign saying 'gay man needs help'
Would that make a difference if life was in your hands
Or are you sitting there saying 'what's the difference'?

I would like to think that everyone would care
That it wouldn't matter who or what I was
I wouldnt be no different to you
A human in need of a helping hand

Now lets take it from the other side
its you who now needs the help
I am your only help
Now, does it make a difference?

Dont treat someone different for being who they are
Smile at them as you would do any other
We are all people who need love and understanding
You, me, us, them, whats the difference?

Sorry its been a few days

We had visitors.........lol

Had my sister and her boyfriend here for a few days and was busyyyyyyy. They went back home wednesday and for some strange reason I slept for about ten hours on Wednesday night ??? Thursday not a lot happened apart from emails and gaming............

Friday was totally different. We went to Morecambe first of as a friend of ours had PC problems. Well off we went and I took my usual box of tricks (recovery disks etc...). After about two hours of trying to get into the system, I admitted defeat. I guessed that it was a hardware problem and after it was taken into a PC repair shop I found my diagnosis to be correct (its either a motherboard problem or a graphics card one). I will know more in ten days.... We left there and then went to another friends who also had a pc problem. Theirs was a little more straight forward as the problem was that the system files were corrupt so I just did a clean install and went up today to finish it off.

Right.............This is where the Soapbox comes out....

I am sick of people belittling others for their colour, race, sexuality, size, height etc.... There are some that will tell you that I am forever telling jokes that sometimes broach these subjects, and they are correct. However I must point out one thing, telling a joke is one thing (knowing who to tell it to is also very important), but when the joke becomes offensive or insulting, thats where I draw the line.

To those people that think it is 'fun' and 'a laugh' to make a persons life unbearable or unliveable, I have this message. IT ISN'T !!!!

I read almost daily about young and not so young people that are taking their own lives because they cannot stand the utter cruelty and prejudice that exists in today's society. If a person is gay, so what. If a person isn't the same as you in whatever manner how does that make them any less a person? If they came up to you and insulted and belittled you for being heterosexual would you be offended ?? Of course you would, because to you that would be 'normal'. Define normal to me !!

A piece of advice. Keep your bigoted, prejudiced views to yourself. We don't want to hear them. Leave these people to live their own 'normal' lives and don't interfere on things that don't concern you. Life is a very short thing and it is over before you know it. To me its like clicking your fingers. Just as you start doing it, its finished. Live life, enjoy life, smile through the pain that life brings, but dont make others wish they hadn't been born. Its so easy to insult people for what you class as being different, but aren't we all 'different' in some way or other. The one thing that makes us who we are is our individuality. Dont take that away from anyone....................

Facebook Games Part 2

Ok here is a breakdown of a few more of the highly addictive games I play.

5. Nightclub City.  Now this is a fairly new game that I have started playing and it is quite cool.  As the title suggests you have to create a nightclub and make it attractive enough to attract lots of customers.  As the levels progress (I am level 14) the decor and the items you can buy improve in quality.  You can expand your bar, dance floor, seating etc...  The best thing about this game for me is that you are actually the DJ in the club and you decide what style (or artist) is going to be playing.  You can even go to others clubs and guest DJ for them for which you get paid. As well as deciding the music you also get the options of either 'dropping the bass' or 'dedicating a song' (or both).  You can also arrange 'parties' where you have certain tasks to achieve.  Two of the funniest parts of the game involve firstly, you can hire bouncers to get rid of 'trouble' (which either means they are sick everywhere from too much drink or they start fights with everyone) and the second is that you can pay for 'celebrities' to visit your club.  There are two or three for about the $2000 mark, but most are a lot more.  All in all a very cool little game with some great music.

+points.  Nice graphics and some very addictive music that will have you searching Youtube (especially a singer called Zac Poor (the guy has an amazing voice)).  You can hire your friends as bar staff or bouncers and the parties are good earners.

-points.  Only one but it is a big one.  In order to get the best out of the game you have to almost sit on it permanently to make sure that you dont run out of drinks or that you are not overrun with jerks and troublemakers (which makes your popularity go down).  Only for those with a lot of time on their hands.

6. Casino City.  Another new addition here and its much like Nighclub City except this time you have to create a casino from scratch.  The object of the game is to gain popularity and money buy buying slot machines, poker machines, pontoon tables etc...  You also have to buy items to decorate your casino from trees to fountains.  Later on in the game (I am level 9) you can even buy bars and drinks machines.  Its a very colourful game and very entertaining.  You can once again visit 'neighbours' who guest you tokens to play their machines.  You can also let them know when their machines are full and need emptying.  When you are in your own casino you can give people complimentary drinks which also adds to your popularity.

+points.  Nice simple game with easy menus and simple logic to progression.  Sound effects realistic.

-points.  Unfortunately its the same as Nightclub City in that you need to keep a constant eye on it as your machines fill up quite quickly and if they are left too long your popularity again decreases.  Its also quite tedious waiting for your level to rank up.  Unless you have lots of chips the gaps between levelling up can take some time.

7. City of Wonder.  Now this is quite a challenging game.  The idea is that you start with a very basic 'settlement' with little knowledge of anything and you have to 'learn' new ideas such as trade, machinery, agriculture etc.  The higher your level the more is opened up and the bigger you can expand your city.  The process of expansion is quite easy in the early stages of the game but as you progress it gets more expensive and unless you have a good supply from your 'markets' and 'businesses' you will find it a little tough going.  I am level 20 and its taking an eternity to get to the next level.  You can build friends embassies in your city and this is a good source of extra income.  As well as this you can also request for them to place your embassies in their cities which you can visit and collect money (silver) from each day.  There are three main quests you can do when you visit other cities that are not your friends.  You can choose 'culture' where you will see which city is more cultured and if you win then you get xp to increase your level.  You can choose to 'trade' where if you have better quality goods you can gain silver or you can choose war where you find out who has the best attack and defence and if its you, you gain population for your city.  It is important to keep your population happy and providing you build enough cultural buildings this isnt difficult.  There are a lot of things you can build from museums and universities to landmarks such as Stonehenge and The great Pyramid.

+points.  Well its a nice kind of 'Sim City' game if a little basic.  Its not time consuming as once you start to 'learn' something new it can take some time (over a day sometimes).  Its got good graphics and when you zoom in on your city you can actually see your people going about their daily lives.

-points.  Well basically its another game where you often find yourself attacked by people and you know when this has happened because all your military buildings will appear as flames which you constantly need to keep repairing.  Some of the 'Landmarks' require your neighbours to click to help you build which I have found can be time consuming and sometimes near impossible (make sure you have reliable neighbours). The most annoying thing is when you come onto the game after being away you find that all your buildings are dirty and this mean a systematic clicking on every building.  At the start this isnt too bad but later as your city expands this becomes a tiring and tedious job.

Facebook Games Part 1

Ok ok so its official.....I am a facebook game addict.  I started of just playing a couple of games in a kind of 'wow look at these, they are different' kind of way, but now I play lots of them and below is a kind of breakdown of the games and their good and bad points (just in case you want to play them).  At the bottom of the page are the game links (where possible) if you would like to join me.............

1. Cafe World.   A nice simple game that I originally joined to 'help out a friend' ahem......I am now on level 53 and my cafe is looking cool LOL.  Basically you start with a little cafe business and its all about making it bigger and better for your customers, both with decorating it (tables, chairs, pictures etc) and expanding it.  You can design both the inside and outside of it with all manner of items.  You can even theme it (mine is a dungeon).  You start with basic recipes and the more you do them, learn them or improve your level the more recipes become available.  Some of the food recipes can take a couple of days to be ready.  You also start with only a couple of stoves and counters (this also increases the higher your level).  The interesting thing is that their are a lot of catering jobs where you need the help of your 'neighbours' (basically friends that play the same game) to either assist in making the food or supplying you with items via gifting (napkins, menus etc...)

+ points.   Nice easy game that isnt that difficult to pick up.  Its fun and you dont have to sit on it all day.  You also have fun designing your cafe just the way you want it.  A lot of items can be brought for the coins you earn in the game, but like most of them the best items cost cash to buy.

-points.  Make sure you know what is ready when or you might come back to a cafe full of food that has rotted and unless you have salvage items that means throwing it away and starting again (I speak from experience)

2. Mafia Wars.  This is more your basic click missions where no real 'interaction' is necessary.  You basically have a set amount of energy to do missions each day (it does replenish given time).  You have a choice of several locations including New York, Las Vegas and Moscow.   You also have to build up properties and collect money from them on a daily basis.  You also have the option to either fight others who play the game or rob them.  Obviously the more 'mafia' (friends) you have then the stronger you are.  As you progress through the game you open up new levels and more missions.  Again you can buy weapons and armor but they do a thing called 'reward points' which are the games official currency for buying the more luxurious items.

+points.  Its a nice simple game that basically explains itself as you play it.  A set amount of energy means you can use all your energy to do the missions and come back later to do more.  Your stamina also replenishes quite quickly (which you need to fight and rob).  Always coming up with new missions and limited time missions.

-points.  Well the main one is that once you pass level 450 (I am 529) then basically you can be attacked by anyone and all the time.  This makes the game a little lame as you usually get attacked by people a thousand levels above you who think they are the next 'godfather' and sometimes it just isnt worth it.  The other down side is it can be very slow moving and when you need certain items to complete levels it can be dame near impossible to get them which makes the game very frustrating.

3. Frontierville.  This game I liked from the start.  Basically you have to start your own frontier, from building a cabin to farming the land for your crops.  Its very involving and there are a lot of missions that can be carried out simultaneously. Some of these involve visiting neighbours frontiers and carrying out jobs for them i.e. chopping trees, feeding animals etc.... You have to build a lot of buildings including an inn, foundry, school and general store (plus lots more).  The land that you are given can be expanded (with the coins you earn).  This is a fun game with a lot of humour, from blowing up the rodents that eat your crops (groundhogs) to scaring bears (by shouting hey hey). LOL.  You even get married on the game and have a child !  The levelling up is quite easy for the first few levels but later on (I am level 33) there is quite a bit to do to level up.

+points.  Extremely addictive and fun game that can give hours of enjoyment.  Your energy replenishes quite quickly and you can buy 'meals' in the game.  There are lots of items you can buy to make your frontier 'pleasant', from fences to pen your animals in to tents and picnics to make it look appealing.

-points.  There are two problems that I have found.  The first is that transition from your frontier to one of your neighbours can take quite some time (upto a minute I have found),  The second one is that it does have a habit of  a message appearing informing you that 'we have lost the connection and need to refresh the page' which can be annoying.

4.Castle Age.  This is another game where its mostly just clicking missions.  The appeal is this is that its basically an RPG in text form.  You start with hardly any armor and weaponry and as you progress through the game (I am level 256) you get better weapons etc.. You are also assigned 'generals' (these are basically allys that you need to do certain missions and as you level them up they give you more abilities....stronger, better defence, more energy etc....).  You also get to fight monsters or 'bosses' which become harder the more you progress.  The first few you can do on your own but the harder bosses again require the help of your friends, or your 'army'.  You can choose to 'invade' or 'duel' other players and you even create or join a guild which then opens up even more aspects of the game, including guild battles.  The main currency needed to buy the more impressive items or soldiers is called 'favor points' and a lot of these can be gained fighting the monsters.

+points.  Another game that is easy to pick up, and again once your energy and stamina are depleted you can go away and come back later once they are replenished.  Great graphics add to a very realistic experience and there are always new items that can be 'gifted' to your allies.

-points.  Again its another one of those games where you can be constantly attacked by people who then make themselves 'hurt or too injured to fight'  which can be very frustrating.  The favour points kind of dry up a lot the further into the game as you complete a lot of the missions and the 'achievements'.

Poem of the Week

This is where I let people read my latest or maybe even some of my older poems and let them leave comments if they so desire.

Each New Day

I wake with a smile as the sun lights the sky
I turn and I glance down at you
Your hair frames your face as you lie on your pillow
And the world could not be a better place

I sit and drink my first tea of the day
And all through my body I feel love
You walk through the door like the angel of the morning
And I know today will be a good day

We talk about nothing as we welcome the morning
And we glance at each other as couples do
And sometimes we will reach out and just hold hands
As we continue our way through the day

We walk hand in hand where ever we go
The feel of you here by my side is heaven
And I know that I will feel like this all my life
Because you are here each new day

New Start

Well its Sunday and I felt lazy so I didnt get up until 10.45 (shocking eh!!!!!).  Nothing much to get up for other than knowing that there were two football (soccer if you are American) matches on that I was interested in watching.
The first (1.30pm kick off) was the Merseysaide derby between Liverpool (Yeyyyyyyyyy) and Everton (Boooooooooo) .....LOL.  Well Liverpool lost 2-0 and anyone watching the first half would have thought that a fair result as we were terrible in almost every department (apart from a ten minute spell which is ironically when Everton scored).  As usual it was sloppy defensive play which carved us open and Tim Cahill scored a well taken half volley, which meant that we went in at half time 1-0 down.  I think Roy Hodgson (Liverpool manager) must have had some harsh words with them at half time because they played a much better game second half and absolutely battered Everton back into their own half.  Everton got a second goal that shouldnt have been allowed to stand as they had a player offside that was blocking the goalkeepers view.
That said I thought that we deserved something from the game and were unlucky from a header of Torres and several long shots from midfielders.  Ah well maybe next game................
The second game was a 4.00pm kick off at Bloomfield Road between Blackpool (premiership newcomers) and Man City (The money boys).  The commentator said that Man city's team was worth 70 times the value of the Blackpool team but you wouldnt have thought so if you had watched the game.  Blackpool controlled the game from the start and apart from the odd break from Man City they were dominant.  It was unfortunate that they ended up losing 3-2 but they once again proved that they are a force to be reckoned with after their last game in which they inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Liverpool (boo hoo it still hurts).
Well its 8.30pm as I write this and at 9.00pm I shall be watching the second part of the new David Tennant dram 'Single Father'.  Its an emotional drama and although David Tennant does a great job in it I keep waiting for him to get in his Tardis and travel back in time and make everything ok ..............LOL
After that I may watch 'Whites' and then 'Harry and Paul' on Virgin Media catch up tv.  Both are funny comedies and although Harry and Paul is into its third series, it still holds a lot of humour (even though something is missing.......cant put my finger on what !!!!).  I think they should definitely bring back the two builders characters although my favourite is still in it 'I saw you coming', which is this great series of sketches where a man owns a shop that sells absolute garbage but rich people keep coming in and paying way more than what the items are worth.
