Soccer Saturday

Didnt get up early because of all the sleep I lost the night before.

Turned on the football and saw the strangest of games.  Chelsea v Arsenal.  Match started with a couple of easy chances for Arsenal which they failed to convert.  First decent chance for Chelsea and they scored with a Frank Lampard header.  Arsenal equalised not long after thanks to a simple goal after some good work from Gervinho who unselfishly rolled the ball across to Robin Van Persie to tap in.  It looked like it was going to be 1-1 at the brea but some bad defending allowed John Terry to side foot a simple effort that rolled into the corner.  Second half was barely underway when Arsenal equalised through Andre Santos before Theo Walcott put them in front.  After that it was end to end and Chelsea got level with ten minutes left thanks to a shot from Mata that looped up of an Arsenal players shin.  John Terry slipped while chasing a backpass and this allowed RVP to round the keeper and slot in his second of the game.  Chelsea chased for the equaliser but RVP sealed his hat-trick with a swerving left foot shot from just inside the area.

Second match was Norwich v Blackburn and this was had some wonderful goals in it.  The first one just before half time from Blackburn player Justin Hoilett. He ran from the left side of the pitch across the edge of the box and unleashed a right foot thunderbolt which meant Blackburn led 1-0 at half time.  Morrison equalised for Norwich with a great right foot volley from the edge of the area before Blackburn scored two goals in quick succession.  The first was a sweet strike from Yakubu, before Samba scored a close range header.  Blackburn at this point were cruising but Norwich pulled one back in Johnson's long range shot that took a wicked deflection and looped over the helpless keeper.  Blackburn were still in control until the dying seconds when the referee awarded them a penalty (never was) and substitute Grant Holt equalised from the spot.

Third game saw West Brom v Liverpool.  I expected West Brom to really give Liverpool a game but they did anything but.  Liverpool were awarded a penalty in the 8th minute as Suarez was tripped and Charlie Adam converted sending the West Brom keeper the wrong way.  It was all Liverpool and Andy Carroll added a second at the end of the first half after Suarez put him clean through.  Liverpool continued in the second half and West Brom never looked like scoring and it was Liverpool who almost added a third in stoppage time as Stewart Downing hit the post with a left foot shot.

I watched one more game and that was Italian Serie A.  Inter Milan v Juventus.  What a game this was with chances all the way through.  Juventus took the lead through Mirko Vucinic but the lead didnt last long before Maicon equalised for the hosts.  Matra was a thorn in Inter's side all game and it was some neat play between him and Marchisio ended in the latter scoring from the edge of the area.  In the second half it was end to end but Juventus held on to go two points clear at the top of Serie A. Inter meanwhile are just two points of the bottom three.

After a day of watching football we decided to settle down to watch Bloodrayne the Third Reich (sequel to the one we watched the other night).  This one was a lot better and the acting not so wooden.  Some good action scenes and good storylline (a little farfetched........but hey).

Finished of the night with another two episodes of Season 3 of Fringe.
